Nathan Keeley spoke to us about MHA Carpenter Box being named a 2019 finalist for Large & Innovative Firm of the Year.

What does it mean to you to be one of the Accounting Excellence Top 5 firms in the Large and Innovative Firm categories this year?

It feels great to receive validation on the direction we have been taking, as it has not been without some pain. It’s been good to share the recognition across the firm and to reward the team for their hard work over the last 12 months.

What achievement in the last year are you most proud of?

It would be hard to pick one. We feel a lot of the progress we have been made has also been down to the relationships we have in the wider community, both internally, and with other firms and software companies. To see the firm and the people within it grow within the last 12 months, culminating with us being confident entering and being shortlisted as a top 5 entry of the Accounting Excellence Awards, epitomises our success.

What are you going to be focusing on in the next 12 months?

We are focusing on driving larger efficiencies internally within the firm using technology and ensuring we are structured correctly so each section of the firm uses the right tools.

What would be your top tip/tips for firms aspiring to achieve excellence in the profession?

Don’t underestimate the value of the team or how much you need to involve them when you are considering significant change in process within the fast moving current landscape. Embrace change, don’t be afraid of it! Collaborate where you can with other like minded firms and relevant professionals. They will be facing similar issues and you can learn from each other in terms of what works and what doesn’t.
