We caught up with Mazuma, a 2019 finalist in not one but two categories: Small Firm of the Year and the Client Service Award. We asked Co-founder Lucy Cohen what, off the back of this achievement, Mazuma will be focusing on in the next 12 months.
Congratulations Lucy! What does it mean to you to be one of the Accounting Excellence Top 5 firms in both the Small Firm of the Year and the Client Service Award categories this year?
We are thrilled with both our nominations. Every year we strive to be a little bit better than the year before, so getting external validation for what we do is always such a great feeling. We’re especially pleased that we’re in the Top 5 for Client Service. This is an area that we focus hard on, so it’s nice to see our efforts being recognised!
What achievement in the last year are you most proud of?
In the last year we’re most proud of our team and how they took an office move in their stride. In October 2017 we purchased our own building, spent time fully refurbishing it and then moved into it in November 2018. An office move can always be disruptive, and it was important to us that client service and SLAs didn’t slip during that transition period.
What are you going to be focusing on in the next 12 months?
The next 12 months will see us focussing on streamlining our technology and upskilling all our staff. We want to have a 100% engaged, enthusiastic and motivated workforce so giving them all ownership of their tech solutions and allowing them to be part of the process is a huge part of that.
What would be your top tip/tips for firms aspiring to achieve excellence in the profession?
Our top tips would be to identify what your strengths are and stick to them. You can’t be everything to all people. Know your own business and work on making it the best in your own way.
