We talked to Graham Carson, Sales and Marketing Director at Inca Accountants, about their achievement.

How does it feel to win Investing in People Award of the Year?

It feels wonderful to have won the Investing in People Award. The entire team are delighted and have been sharing in the success. It’s magnificent recognition of the way they have bought into the vision and values of the business and how this translates into the service we deliver to our clients. So many individuals contributed to our success in becoming a Gold Employer within Investors in People and to living this approach day to day. The credit goes to them.

How will winning the 2020 Accounting Excellence Award for Investing in People Award of the Year impact your firm after a difficult year like this one?

There’s no doubt 2020 has been a year of incredible challenges for humanity, businesses across the globe and accounting practices are no exception. We’re especially proud and delighted about the manner in which our team has adapted and succeeded in providing the essential support our clients have needed throughout this pandemic, whilst paying close attention to their mental health needs throughout. We believe winning this award puts us in a strong position heading into 2021. Achieving & celebrating success provides a tremendous lift to everyone, especially at the end of such a traumatic year. Being recognised at the leading UK accountancy practice investing in its people gives added impetus as we look to recruit and grow in 2021. We believe the hard work our team has put into helping our clients in 2020 will be rewarded in 2021.

What advice would you give to anyone entering the awards, or thinking of entering the awards next year?

We would encourage all accounting practices and businesses, in general, to enter for awards. The recognition the team and the business receive on becoming a finalist is tremendous, the excitement and nervousness of the awards night, whilst emotionally challenging and bring incredible results. The clients love it as well – they’re associated with a business that is considered excellent among its peers. We’ve had so many messages of congratulations, lots of which believe this award was fully deserved. That’s incredibly gratifying.

What does accounting excellence mean to you?

Accounting Excellence to us means setting the bar high, higher than feels comfortable and then setting out to achieve those goals. It’s about sharing that vision, not just with the team and clients, but with other practices. It’s about learning from their great work. Fundamentally it’s about living a vision of a world in which businesses and business owners succeed.
