We spoke to Daniel Crowther, Director at Thorne Widgery about being named Practice Pioneer of the Year 2019. How does it feel to win Practice Pioneer of the Year 2019? It is a real honour to be recognised at the Accounting Excellence Awards as they are the UK’s leading awards ceremonies for the accountancy profession and especially considering their growing focus on innovation. Of course, none of this would be possible without our awesome team at Thorne Widgery. They have helped bring my ideas and ambitions to life with their support and hard work. Our clients also play an important role in this success, by being so open to the ideas that we put forward and working with us to add value to their businesses. I couldn’t be more delighted with taking this award back home.
How will winning the 2019 Accounting Excellence Award for Practice Pioneer impact your firm? Through our innovative work in accountancy and business advisory, we are already beginning to gain national recognition, but we hope that this latest award will highlight the expertise and drive to innovate that permeates throughout our practice. Our passion is to drive the profession forwards using technology but whilst recognising that people are the key to the value that we add. We are hoping this award highlights this approach and why it is important to our clients and team. We also hope that it helps with the recruitment of new team members, who are intrigued and excited about what we are trying to achieve. We have big plans for expansion in the future and we will need a team that have the right skills and attitude to help us achieve our aspirations.
What advice would you give to anyone entering the awards, or thinking of entering the awards next year? Winning an award is an opportunity to completely change how your practice is perceived. Based in Hereford and Ludlow, most would assume that we are a typical, traditional rural practice, but as this award has highlighted nothing could be further from the truth. We are a practice that is focused on the cutting edge of technology and new approaches. Winning an award like this is an effective way of sharing our story with a wider audience.
What does accounting excellence mean to you? These awards are a fantastic way of highlighting the expertise, passion and innovation present within our industry. They promote the incredible work that the sector does for so many businesses, both large and small, raising the profile of those practices that deliver exceptional services to their clients. In my opinion the profession is more exciting and fast paced than it has ever been, it’s fantastic to be a part of that.
